Bio| These days everybody thinks highly of that idiot, Icarus. Nobody thinks about what it means since they don't know, so I'll tell you what I think: I think that idiot was just obsessed with an old dream of man -- the desire to fly. He couldn't even go at it alone! Trapped in a labyrinth, following the escape route paved by his father, the idiot had a pair of wings made for him from wax and feathers. Once they were on his back, he listened to his father's instruction and flew from the prison. He started out okay -- he was thrilled! Caught in the exhilaration of reaching heights no man had ever grasped before him, he forgot the warning his father gave him: If you fly too close to the sun, your wings will burn; fly too close to the sea, your wings will catch moisture and fall to pieces. He was too careless. He was so high he nearly touched the sun. Nearly. He didn't do it, but the height he reached was enough to scald him. He was over the sea when the wax melted, probably looking like some feather pillow ripped in half. He plunged into the water from that incredible height. If the impact didn't kill him, drowning did. People who don't know think there's something tragic and heroic -- in some cases, even romantic! -- about this blatant idiocy. I know better. I survived my fall and lost my right arm and left leg. And this time? I'm gonna walk instead of fly. I'll accomplish my goal at any cost and I won't accept any help from that bastard who doesn't deserve to call himself my father. 3rd Oct. 1910 Major Edward Elric, dog of the military Granted the title "Full Metal" by Führer King Bradley Is more than deserving of his heavy name The Full Metal Alchemist. |
